This is great picnic fare. Perfect to bring to a 4th of July pot-luck. Within what looks to be a regular loaf of white bread lies a sneaky, fabulous sandwich! Couldn’t be easier to make and great for kids and adults!
1 portion bread or pizza dough (can be a mix, ready-made, or home made dough)
Fillings of your choice; Italian cold cuts, roasted vegetables and assorted cheeses—avoid sandwich spreads, as they will melt or any very bulky items.
1) Pre-heat the oven to 200C (375-400F). Roll out the dough into a rectangular shape, about 12 by 10 inches. Layer the filling down the middle, leaving a 2 inch border around the entire thing. Fold the ends in then roll it lengthwise to form a loaf.
2) Lay into a loaf pan and make deep slashes along the top. Brush with egg wash. Bake for roughly 45 minutes—until the bread is a lovely brown color and cooked through. Allow to sit for at least 20 minutes, but up to several hours before slicing.
Makes about 6 to 8 good slices, depending on size.
