We had this last night, on New Year's eve. It was a fun dinner to share with the children-- everyone gets to cook their own supper! You will need a fondue pot with long forks for this, but it is easy and totally healthy!
Happy New Year!
For the broth: This is enough for 6 people
6-8 cups beef or chicken broth, or a mixture of the two
1, 4-inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and chopped fine
3 green onions, trimmed then sliced thinly, using all white to dark green
3 cloves garlic, minced or pressed
2-3 tablespoons soy sauce
Slice into thinish strips any or all of the following: Counting on 4-6 ounces of meat per person and plenty of vegetables.
Lean beef steak
Boneless, skinless chicken breast
Pork tenderloin
Raw shrimp (left whole, deveined and shells removed)
Fresh shiitake mushrooms
Red bell pepper, (seeds removed and trimmed)
Mange tout (sugar snap peas)
1) Bring the broth to a boil on the stove top then pour into the fondue pot. Heat the fondue pot to high, to keep the broth boiling.
2) Fork the strips of meat and vegetables and place into the boiling broth for about 2 minutes, until cooked.
That's it! If you like, buy or make some dipping sauces, but I was feeling lazy and didn't. The broth os so flavorful that sauces are completely necessary. Also, if you have broth and meat/veg left-overs, combine them and allow to cook through then keep in the refrigerator as a soup for the next day...

Hey JennyB,
Here is a math problem from Lily's math class at Kantonschule Zurich Birch. We just worked out the answer (not easy). A classically Swiss problem in many ways:
For a New Year's Eve party, cheese maker Emmi Landolt mixes a lower quality cheese A with a higher quality cheese B to get a 5 kg fondue. The total cost for cheese A is 84 Fr, and the total cost for cheese B is 48 Fr. Find the price per kilo of cheese A and B, if one kilo of cheese A is 8 Fr cheaper than one kile of cheese B.
Let me know if you want the answer. I don't want to spoil anyone's fun in working it out.
